Personalised Artworks FAQ's

How do I take a good photograph?

Please follow the below pet photo guidelines to ensure the highest quality artwork:

  1. Take the photo in a brightly lit area with no shadows.

  2. Take the photo close up at your pet’s eye level capturing its whole face and chest if you would like a cropped head portrait.

  3. If you would like your pet's whole body in the artwork then please ensure your photo demonstrates this, with nothing covering paws, ears etc. Please remember the artwork will reflect the photograph, so if features are cut off in your image, they will also be cut off in the artwork.

  4. Use a high-quality camera or smartphone to help highlight your pet’s true colour.

  5. Try to photograph your pet with a background that contrasts their fur, feathers, hair colour etc.

  • Alternatively, you can also take the photo from above or with your pet looking away from the camera as long as you do so with good lighting.

  • Poor lighting (lack of natural light) and shadows minimise detail and true colours. Lighting is the critical component of a good-quality photo. If your photo has been taken during a bright sunny day it almost always works well. If there is a problem with your photo we will be sure to reach out.

What if my photograph is poor quality?

We will advise you if a photo is of poor quality before we commence work to ensure our high standard is maintained.

If you ever feel unsure about a photo please feel free to get in touch by contacting us directly through our site or emailing hello@spilthoney.com.au. Please be sure to attach the photo(s) in question.

Can my photograph be created in my preferred language?

Yes, our personalised artworks, personalised pet portraits and baby illustrations can be created in any language you would prefer. Please contact or email us at hello@spilthoney.com.au to have this arranged and ensure spelling is correct.

Does it matter if my photo has things in the background?

Generally, no. The background can be cropped out by our artists. If there are any problems with your photograph we will reach out to let you know before your artwork is created.

Do you do portraits other than cats and dogs?

Yes, our artists provide personalised pet portraits for all types of pets. If it's an animal we can create a portrait for it.

Can I have more than one pet in the portrait?

Yes, if you would like them placed together on the same artwork your photograph will need to reflect this. Alternatively you can order separate artworks of each pet.

Can I email in a photo instead?

Yes, please email us directly through our contact page with your preferred photo if you are having trouble uploading it through our automated form. Alternatively, you can also reach us at hello@spilthoney.com.au

Birth Poster: How does the illustration get scaled to size of the baby's actual birth length?

We adjust the height of your chosen baby illustration to the exact length of your baby at birth. We will give printing instructions when sending your order for the size in which to print your artwork based on your babies length. This will either be in an A2 or A1 size format.

PRINTING AND FRAMING OF YOUR Personalised Artwork

Where should I print my artwork?

We advise using a professional printing service like Kwik Kopy, Snap, or Office Works for best results. Choosing a slightly textured fine art paper around 300gsm will give you the best quality results.

Non-professional printers and paper sources may affect and produce different colour and quality variations to that advertised. We do not recommend printing artworks yourself from a regular printer.

Do you provide framing?

No, at this stage we do not offer printing or framing. We hope to offer this service in the near future. You will receive a digital product that you will need to have printed yourself. Please see our Q&A's on printing above.

TIME FRAMES

How long will it take to receive my order?

The estimated delivery time for your artwork will be 3-5 business days from the date the order has been placed. Once completed your order will be emailed to you using the email address used to place the order.

If your order requires a new photo this will slow down the production process. In this case we will be in contact with you via email.
